To our friends and customers,
Today we’re pleased to introduce the Wave Hill Chair, our second outdoor chair and the first made in partnership with Wave Hill.
The chair takes its cues from a garden seat found on the grounds at Wave Hill, a majestic Bronx estate looking across the Hudson toward New Jersey’s Palisades. It descends from Gerrit Rietveld’s 1918 Red and Blue Chair and Lester Collins’ 1960s outdoor adaptation for Innisfree in Millbrook, New York. The design beautifully balances architectural formality with an at-ease posture.
Our version is made from solid American white oak, grown in Pennsylvania, and assembled with threaded inserts for a long life in the elements. It is finished by hand with a penetrating juniper waterproofer as well as pure raw tung oil grown in Florida. Like our Westport Chair, it will gracefully silver with age, or you can apply a pigmented finish of your choosing (we love pine tar for this purpose).
The chair is comfortable for long afternoons and belongs almost anywhere: on a porch, beneath a tree, beside a garden path, or facing the last light of day.
Pricing starts at $595 for one, with progressive savings for multiple chairs. The chair ships free via UPS Ground directly from Kenon Perry’s workshop in Bosque County, Texas. Assembly is straightforward, taking about 15 minutes per chair. We include the necessary Allen key in the box.
Four percent of revenues from each chair will support Wave Hill and its ongoing stewardship of one of New York City’s great public landscapes.
Thank you, as always, for supporting Roseland.
Best,
Luke Sherwin and Clare de Boer
